Del Mar College Heritage Campus
101 Baldwin Blvd.
Corpus Christi, TX 78404
Guest author Diana Lopez returns to Del Mar College to introduce two award-winning Mexican American authors, Sergio Troncoso and Guadalupe Garcia McCall, who will talk about their critically-acclaimed and recently released books, including Troncoso’s Nobody’s Pilgrims, which won the Gold Medal for Best Novel-Adventure or Drama from the International Latino Book Awards, and Garcia McCall’s Echoes of Grace. An educator, author, poet and speaker, Garcia McCall’s Echoes of Grace plays on the South Texas legend of the dancing diablo. The author is an advocate for literacy, diverse books and the Own Voices movement. Now a full-time author and part-time educator residing in San Antonio, Garcia McCall is currently working on two more books, Secret of the Moon Conch and Hearts of Fire and Snow, coming from Bloomsbury in 2023 and 2024. Novelist and short-story writer Troncoso is editor of Nepantla Familias, which received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews. He also wrote The Last Tortilla and Other Stories, Crossing Borders and A Peculiar Kind of Immigrant’s Son, which Luis Alberto Urrea praised as “a world-class collection.” A Fulbright scholar and past president of the Texas Institute of Letters, Troncoso teaches fiction and nonfiction at the Yale Writers’ Workshop in New Haven, Ct. Cosponsored by the Del Mar College Mexican American Studies Program and the Texas Institute of Letters, both the talks and book signing event are free and open to the public with light refreshments served. The authors’ books will be available for purchase in the Coles Classroom Building through the DMC Bookstore.
